Behavior Expectations

Ms. Hinckley’s Expectations (and other notes)
PBIS
PBIS is a program that we are using at school to encourage positive behaviors. Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS) is a reinforcement system to help increase positive behavior throughout the school. All the teachers, administrators, staff, and after-school staff have been trained in how to use the program. When a student is "caught" doing something positive they are given an ACT ticket. Each ticket has a stub that is placed in a container in the classroom and we have a weekly drawing for rewards on Friday. There is also a school-wide drawing each Friday where two students are rewarded for their positive behavior. There will also be quarterly rewards drawn from the school-wide container for larger rewards. When a student earns an ACT ticket they bring home a green ticket to hang on the refrigerator and show their families.

Homework
  • Sent home in Homework Folder nightly (please check it)
  • Written in Planner or on Homework Journal by student
  • Reading is a nightly requirement for homework. Their reading log is to be filled out nightly and turned in at the end of the month.
  • If there is no homework the homework folder will still go home with any notices or completed work
  • If homework is not completed the student will complete it during recess in the responsibility room. Other consequences will follow if turning in homework is a persistent problem.
Behavior

The students are expected to follow the classroom rules that we came up with together. They are:
  • I am Respectful and Trustworthy.
  • I Care about others.
  • I take Responsibility.
If a student is not following the rules there will be one warning and the student turns in one ticket.

If the student continues to need reminders to follow the rules the student will turn in another ticket and have “Think Time” to reflect on the choices they are making and make a plan to change the behavior and fill out a “Think Time Debriefing Form”. The form will be sent home for a parent signature.

If the student is continuing to make poor choices they will move turn in their third (and last ticket for the day) and lose their afternoon recess (they will be in the responsibility room). Parents will be notified through a note, phone call or text message.

If the behavior continues the student will be referred to Mr. Dye and where the consequence will be determined by him.
The tickets that have not been turned in due to behavior will be put into a large drawing at the end of the week. So, the more tickets they keep the more opportunity they have to win the behavior prize at the end of the week.

Parent Volunteers
There are state requirements for parents that volunteer to work in the classroom or go on field trips. If you are interested in volunteering either in the school or as a field trip chaperone please stop by the front desk and fill out a volunteer form. All parents who are working with/chaperoning the students in our school are required to have a fingerprint card on file. The office staff can answer any of your questions about this requirement.
It is required that all parents coming into the school sign in and receive a visitor/volunteer badge/sticker from the front office. If you are picking up your child, you wait at the front office and your child will be called from their classroom.
Birthdays

We can have small birthday celebrations as they come up through the year. For those students whose birthday does not fall on a school day, you can choose another day close to the birthdate (for example, if Suzie’s birthday falls on a Saturday, she can celebrate with us on Friday or Monday). For those students whose birthdays fall during the summer or over other breaks, the celebrations can be close to the date (January 1st celebration on the 1st day back from break) or the celebrations can be on half birthdays (for example, if Johnny’s birthday is on July 26th the celebration for his half birthday can be on January 26th to celebrate his 8 ½ years. Food for birthday celebrations (and other celebrations) must have food labels on it for safety reasons for children with food allergies. Sorry, no home-made goodies.
